On the afternoon of January 6^th, Prof. Lan Feng from Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences delivered an academic lecture for teachers and students of our School via the Tencent conference APP. A total of more than 180 postgraduate students and some teachers from School participated in this exchange. The meeting was presided over by Associate Professor Zhou Ping, director of the Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Lanzhou University Stomatological Hospital.

The theme of this lecture is "Application of Gene Editing in the Medical Field". Starting from the basic principle, Professor Lan Feng gave a brief introduction to the origin and development of gene editing, as well as the people who have made important contributions in the field.

In order to deepen students' understanding and cognition of gene editing, Professor Lan feng expounded its application in basic theoretical and clinical research, as well as the therapeutic effect in the medical field.

After the lecture, the teachers and students had a warm discussion and exchange with Professor LAN Feng. Associate Professor Zhou Ping discussed the relationship and application of gene editing technology, as well as his understanding of the application prospect in stomatology at home and abroad.

Qi Yongmei, teacher from the School of Life Sciences exchanged ideas with Professor Lan Feng on the selection of preclinical research targets, which expanded the students' understanding of gene editing. Zeng Huajing, a 2020 master student, asked a question about the effect of treatment on gene editing both in the mature stage and embryonic stage, and Professor Lan Feng gave a patient and detailed answer.

Through this lecture, the students have had a better understanding of gene editing, a "revolutionary" technology in the field of life sciences, which exerts a positive effect on the broadening of researching ideas in the future.
